«I live on the border between dream and reality, transforming inner visions into images that reveal the invisible.»
Matteo Basilé (Rome, 1974) lives and works in Rome. Since the mid-1990s he has been among the first in Europe to merge art and technology, building a visual language that crosses disciplines, epochs and cultures.
His practice unfolds in chapters, sequential visions that question identity and existence in an age of constant transformation. At its heart is hybridisation: between body and landscape, human and artificial, reality and imagination. In his portraits beauty is charged with ambiguity and the subject becomes a threshold between the visible and the invisible.
Four years in Southeast Asia shaped his way of seeing, sharpening the tension between East and West, sacred and profane. Achille Bonito Oliva described him as the author of a technological mannerism infused with painterly surrealism.
In recent years his work has extended into artificial intelligence, augmented reality and phygital languages: technology not as a tool but as a sensitive material, an extension of thought.
